1944: WWII is ending, leaving behind a long trail of death, misery and destruction. The Nazis are forced to retreat by the relentless advances of the Allies during the Italian Liberation Campaign. But before abandoning the camp, one of the bunkers where Doctor Morel, the Führer’s controversial personal physician, carried out his experiments, is buried so that its secrets will never be revealed.

2012: Ginevra Melandri is no ordinary policewoman in more ways than one. She is highly politically incorrect, a no-frills-approach type of officer with a dangerous sense of humour and combat skills to match, as a paedophile ringleader will soon find out to his own demise.

TODAY: The summer is scorching, the heat is unbearable, and the Italians are thinking about the sea and the holidays. But not everyone. Hidden in the Dark Web is the lucrative world of extreme fetish, sexual perversion and international trade of torture. A world that satisfies every type of deprivation, where a gang of perverted sadists kidnap and torture one girl after another. A world in which a mysterious figure roams wearing the mask of Death, brutally torturing and killing his victims. With the number of victims growing on each side, it’s Ginevra's duty to connect the events and people and to follow the toxic thread all around Italy that would lead her to rediscover an old buried case, bringing to light a frightening truth.

The Author

Mario Ferrante is the classic boy next door, who lived across Italy and around the world for most of his life.
Today he divides his time between Milan and Sardinia, where he finds the colors and the scent of the sea’s liberty.
He is endemically attracted to everything that is propelled by an engine on land, at sea, and in the sky, with a passion with twentieth-century echoes fueled by profound mechanical knowledge seasoned with cinematic forces.
Professionally, he has worked in the world of energy and his derivatives, but on the side of this rational work, he has also worked in the creative world of photography.

After a lifetime as a reader, he decided that it was the right time to write, to stop the thoughts and the quick images that accompanied him; this novel marks his debut.
